Mirror, Mirror Challenge: April Fool Prompt

My Mirror, Mirror Challenge: April Fool Prompt is up:
Who are you seeing when you look in a mirror? Is that really you? Or, are you just wearing a costume? Who is that looking out of your eyes?

Journal Page Creations...Day 6 (Happy Birthday SHARA!)

Journal Page Creations -- Day 6: Ms. Peacock (For Shara)

Journal Page Creations -- Day 6: Platinum Blonde

Journal Page Creations -- Day 6: Debunking the Myth

I am finding this easier and easier to do. Interesting. I just sit down in front of the TV after dinner and start tearing, gluing, cutting and coloring the pages with Cat's Eye Ink Pads. Not great art but so much fun to see what comes out of just mixing the images up. Where is this leading me? Don't know. Don't care! I am just thrilled to be creating on a regular basis!

Journal Page Creations...Day 5

Journal Page Creations -- Day 5: Buddha and Bowl
So many arty things to do, so little time! This page "recycles" some journal pages (color copy) that my sister and I created together on one of our Mexico trips!

Mirror, Mirror Challenge (Let the Photos Begin!)

What is it about mirrors? I have always had a love/hate relationship with them. Since I was a young girl, I often looked at myself in them. It's not that I'm vain -- it has always been a strange fascination -- who was/is that girl/woman staring back at me? In my life I have often been told that I was beautiful, smart -- but that never really felt real to me -- I never really felt it deep down inside. So maybe looking at myself in a mirror was an attempt to see that beauty, then to feel it. Or just an attempt to feel myself. Or an attempt to see something else entirely. What an odd thing to do! It's only recently as the wrinkles and the gray hair and the body changes creep in, that I've started to think, well maybe I am beautiful. Maybe I've lied to myself all these years instead of claiming my beauty. Or maybe it's not about any of that. It's just an exercise in looking at the facts, maybe even the fantasy.

I find it amusing to see that I started this blog with a post and a picture of myself that was snapped in the bathroom mirror. So I've decided to start a Mirror, Mirror Challenge for anyone to join. Anyone who has the time or inclination to post a photo they have taken of themselves in a mirror. To start with, it will be necessary to post a photo at a minimum once a month. But I will also have a Wild Card section, where if spur-of-the-moment mirror and camera opportunities arise, can be uploaded. Here goes! I invite you to join me!
What would it be like to not worry about aging? To just feel my mane blowing in the wind?

Thursday -- Say What????

Smirking Buddha Oriel

Oh my god it's Thursday already! Where did the week go to? What have I accomplished for the past 3 days?

It takes a tremendous amount of self-discipline for me to do art consistently. In defense of myself, I have been slowly finishing several oriels that had been copper-taped but not soldered. I have also been experimenting photographing them with my camera and my "photo studio in a box". I am also opening up a shop on 1000 Markets, so I am dealing with various issues -- file size of images, copy, opening an Amazon pay account.

Everyday I feel the desire to create and experiment with different tools and mediums, yet I find myself avoiding the studio except for the most minimal time. Do I need to set some more goals for myself? Here's some possibilities:
  1. How about my own Illustration Friday (create a piece of art every Friday)?
  2. Or, an Art-Every-Day-for-a-Year challenge (like it says a piece of art everyday--EEEKKKK!)?
  3. Or, maybe a Technique Thursday (learn a new technique every Thursday).

Then post whatever I create. An unlimited time frame seems too daunting, so maybe I'll just commit to do this for a month. Hmmmmm. What to do, what to do?

What would it feel like to not hesitate? To just
act? To just feel my mane blowing in the wind?
