Journal Page Creations...Day 70

Journal Page Creations -- Day 70: Exhale and Relax
One of my favorite things to do as a child was to go out in my grandparents' backyard, lie on my back, and stargaze. What was out there in that great black spinning void? I would try to see the images in the constellations, but no matter how hard I tried, I could never see a dog, a queen, or Pegasus. Yet it didn't worry me -- it was comforting to lose myself in the bigness, the sparkly blackness, as the air cooled around me, and the grass became wetter, and the crickets and cicadas became louder and louder....Instead of feeling small and insignificant, I would get bigger and bigger. I need to remember that feeling, as I rush about my day.

  2. Yes, actually, when I was smaller, that's where I spent most of my stargazing -- in my grandparents' hammock! My "Mimi and Gaga" would take me out there and wrap me up in it. It had long, fringed sides that felt like a blanket. My grandmother would sit beside the hammock and rock it and sing to me. My grandfather sat a little ways away and would call to the owls, until they started to answer him. Magical for a child! Thanks for reminding me!

  3. I grew up in the desert where the sky was absolutely smathered in a roiling doily of stars. All you had to do at night when you were walking down a lonely road was stop, lean back and wait, oh, 60 seconds for your eyes to adjust. And the universe began coming at you. Really something. Having lived in cities ever since my childhood, I haven't experienced that in - oh - a few years...
