"Je Dessine" ("I Draw") Show-and-Tell Mondays

Contour Line Drawing: Dentist Rinse Cup

I think it's interesting that I drew this sweet little cup and hearts on the wall (all imagined -- it's not that colorful or creatively decorated) waiting for my dentist. The week before I had experienced a Godzilla of a dental technician torturing me with her gum shredding equipment. My dentist is an angel. Must be a bad cop good cop routine.

2011 Daily Journal Pages...Day 319

2011 Daily Journal Pages -- Day 319: Having a Moment
Seems like I have these moments (self-doubt, confusion, inertia) throughout the day, most days -- but they are actually happening less and less these days. That's a miracle, I think. Could be: a healthier diet, losing excess weight, going on biodenticals, feeling loved by people close to me, loved by those far from me, loved by the Universe, and finally feeling loved by me. Less room for for "those moments". And when those moments come, well I either just wait them out, knowing they are on the front runner of some change, or I bluster through them, or I just throw my heart over the fence and follow it.

Dr. Jen Green's Office
Having had my sister for a visit last week threw a crank into my regular activities...so although I was creative every day with her every single day, I didn't do my regular posting/blogging. Mary came for a ten-day visit. I adore my sister, and she me, and almost every single moment we spent together: creating art, shopping gleefully and very bad-badly, she attended my most recent Collage Cafe, cooking together and supporting each other in a diet we've both been on for the last month. I did manage to make a few drawings over the last ten days so I'm posting them now. And some gesture drawings, which amuse me. I'll be catching up on everything -- posting my journal pages etc. -- in the next few days.

She is so delighted to hear from her friend -- she's flying into the near-spring, roses trailing behind her. My photo of rose; gessoed magazine images, recolored and touched up with aquacolors, oil pastels.

1000th Post Celebratory Give Away -- Winner!

Two weeks ago I wrote my 1000th post! To celebrate and as a thank you for my readers I held a contest for a give away of one of my oriel pendants: "Sacred Journey". The blind drawing was held today (Valentine's Day) and thank you hubby -- and a big congratulations goes to Lisa Briseno-Croome of Toulouse, France. Lisa creates and sells awesome jewelry and you should check out her blog WildGift Designs. Congratulations Lisa!

Cubist Cat and Coffee Cups
Continuing on with my sketching, I also started the exercises in Carla Sonheim's Drawing Lab. I've had the book on my shelves for a while but a few posts ago a reader said she was having some success with this book. So I pulled it out and will report back with the results as I go. The first exercise is to draw imaginary cats while in bed. I suppose this is a way to keep you relaxed and also a bit of fun. Quite a number of my cats (and one or two lion-like creatures) seemed to have humorous expressions on their little faces. Mind you this exercise was a bit anxiety producing because to me I don't seem to have a very good memory. So I really feel that I am drawing in the dark. But Carla's animals as depicted in her drawings are all a little strange and fantastical. So who cares? I kind of like the group I came up with -- they do have personalities! I tried to start another page of cats, but got tired, or bored, so stopped with my Picasso-cubist-cat. The coffee cups I added a few days later.

There is nothin' like a California spring-in-winter day. Surrounded by trees, birds, hints of spring, sunshine that kisses your face, and balmy breezes that lift your spirit....I bless the day I first decided that I wanted to live in Norther California...over 36 years ago!

Je Dessine ("I Draw") Show-and-Tell Monday

Munro on Couch

Where do the days go? I don't seem to have the ability, or maybe it's the desire to prioritize. I only sketched twice this past week -- so -- so much for strengthening my technique! But, I did do it. And I have to remind myself that it's the journey that's important -- and my creative journey has it's own pace and timing. So, onward I march...

2011 Daily Journal Pages -- Day 303: Changing
There is always the possibility of transformation -- it just has to come from some other place than will. But that does not mean passivity, or inaction. One has to pick up one's bed and walk with it. The going into motion, combined with an intention, is what opens the door to possibility, magic, and transformation.
